I think of all the “fashion films” out there, Almost Famous is one of the most commonly mentioned. In fact, I doubt that it’s essential that I even post screenshots (although I shall happily on request!) for you to recognise the “look”. This year’s (Northern Hemisphere) spring editorials have a major 70s sensibility. I love it!

I’ve always had a strong affinity with that rock n’roll mood. Even though I’ve become far more “girly” in the past couple years, I still prefer to throw a shrug, tassles, massive rings, messy hair and maximum prints on maxi skirts into the mix. I think when you come from a boring standard, white, middle class background, it’s about as edgy and cool as you can get. Yeh!

These are some fresh editorial prints from Australia’s Marie Claire’s April edition named after the film that needs no introduction, Almost Famous.

Future Fashion Predictions (from the 1930s)

Meet Eve, who in this clip (circa 1930) has been dressed by designers anticipating how she might attire herself in the year 2000. The results are darling! And might I add, not so far off.

Personally, I quite admire some of these concoctions. Those cantilever heels have a striking resemblance to many modern ladies feet today, point in case here. And how about that electric belt to adapt the body to climatic changes!? Brilliant.

Although the ladies faired better aesthetically, the gentleman is quite the faddish fellow decked with his 1930’s iPhone (upgraded with radio compatibility!) and, wait, what!? “Candy for cuties?”

Adorable. Enjoy!

Sidney Lumet died yesterday aged 86. He was ceaseless in his work, his final film being completed just recently in 2007. He was best known for masterful pictures such as 12 Angry Men, but he has made many stylish films with many glamorous gals (and a few guys!).
